BREAKING: 13-Year-Old Apple Valley Boy Killed in Farmington Hit-and-Run; Police Searching for Black SUV

FARMINGTON, MN: Authorities are searching for the driver of a vehicle that struck and killed a 13-year-old bicyclist before fleeing the scene Tuesday night in Farmington.

According to the Farmington Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 9:44 p.m. on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, to the intersection of Minnesota Highway 50 and Dushane Parkway, near the McDonald's restaurant, for a report of a crash involving a motor vehicle and a bicyclist.

Juvenile Bicyclist Dies at the Scene

A preliminary investigation determined that two juvenile boys were crossing Highway 50 on bicycles when a vehicle traveling westbound struck one of them.

The driver did not stop after the collision and fled the scene.

Bystanders, Farmington police officers, firefighters, and paramedics immediately began life-saving efforts on the injured child. Despite those efforts, the victim died at the scene.

The victim has been identified only as a 13-year-old boy from Apple Valley. Authorities are withholding his name out of respect for the family and pending appropriate notifications.

Search Underway for Suspect Vehicle

Investigators are asking for the public's help in locating the vehicle believed to have been involved in the fatal crash.

Based on evidence collected during the investigation, police believe the suspect vehicle is:

  • A small black SUV

  • Has front-end or passenger-side damage

  • Is missing its passenger-side mirror

Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information that may help identify the vehicle is urged to contact the Farmington Police Department at651-280-6700.

Investigators are especially interested in speaking with anyone who was traveling in the area around the time of the crash or who may have dash camera footage or surveillance video showing the suspect vehicle before or after the collision. Police are also working with neighboring businesses to gather surveillance video to get an image of the vehicle.

Minnesota State Patrol Assisting Investigation

The Minnesota State Patrol responded to conduct the crash investigation and is assisting the Farmington Police Department as investigators work to identify the driver responsible.

The Farmington Police Department extended its deepest condolences to the victim's family, friends, and everyone affected by the tragedy.

The investigation remains active, and additional information is expected to be released as it becomes available.
