Vehicle Fire Erupts After Rear-End Crash on I-35W in Bloomington, Injuring Two

BLOOMINGTON, MN: A two-vehicle crash on I-35W in Bloomington on Tuesday evening led to a vehicle fire and sent at least two people to the hospital, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
The crash occurred at approximately 7:19 p.m. on April 21, 2026, in the northbound lanes of I-35W near 98th Street. Troopers responding to the scene determined that the incident involved a rear-end style collision between two vehicles. Following the impact, one of the vehicles caught fire, adding to the severity of the scene and prompting an emergency response. Bloomington Fire, Bloomington Police, Minnesota State Patrol, and MnDOT all responded to the scene.
All northbound lanes of I-35W were closed for a period of time at 106th Street while crews worked to clear the crash and investigate the cause.
Authorities say one of the drivers involved sustained minor injuries. In addition, a juvenile passenger was transported to a hospital for evaluation of possible injuries. The extent of those injuries has not been released.
No further details about the individuals involved or the circumstances leading up to the crash have been provided at this time.
The Minnesota State Patrol says the crash remains under investigation.
