BLOOMINGTON MN: A Bloomington man has been charged with second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon after a dispute over an oven mitt allegedly turned physical and resulted in another person being struck in the head with a brick, according to a criminal complaint.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Hennepin County District Court, 54-year-old Stein Eric Tenold is charged with one count of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon.

The complaint states Bloomington police officers responded at about 7:01 p.m. on May 7 on a report of a domestic assault.

According to the complaint, the victim told officers they and Tenold — identified as the victim’s cousin and roommate — had been arguing over an oven mitt near a back door.

The victim stated Tenold grabbed them, threw them to the ground, and struck them several times in the head with what the victim described as a heavy object.

According to the complaint, the victim later observed that paver stones, described in the complaint as bricks, had been moved near the area where the confrontation occurred. The victim told officers they believed Tenold grabbed the bricks and struck them in the head with them.

Officers reportedly found the victim suffering from a head injury at the scene.

The complaint states the victim told Tenold they were calling 911, and Tenold then left.

Officers later located Tenold walking a short distance away. According to the complaint, officers observed a bite mark on his arm and a bloody knuckle. The complaint states Tenold told officers the victim bit him and claimed the injury to his knuckle came from falling down.

When asked what caused the victim’s head injuries, Tenold reportedly told officers the victim likely “hit himself in the head” and referenced large stones near the back stairs, according to the complaint.

Tenold was arrested and booked into the Hennepin County Jail.

Charges are allegations, and all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
