Burnsville Resident Alleges Rough Encounter With ICE Agents During Weekend Operations; City Reaffirms It Does Not Assist in Federal Immigration Enforcement

BURNSVILEE, MINNESOTA — New details have emerged following federal immigration enforcement activity in Burnsville over the weekend, including allegations from a resident at a local apartment complex who says federal agents assaulted them. The City of Burnsville reiterated Monday that local police do not participate in federal immigration enforcement and were not involved in the incidents.
Federal agents were present in multiple areas of Burnsville, prompting widespread community concern and numerous calls to dispatch. According to the city, Burnsville Police were not notified of the federal operations and did not assist ICE in any enforcement actions.
Resident Reports Forceful Encounter at Meridian Pointe Apartments
The multi-family housing complex connected to one of the city’s weekend calls for service has been identified by residents as Meridian Pointe Apartments, located in the 250 block of McAndrews Road West. A resident of the building shared a detailed account of his encounter with federal agents, alleging that ICE personnel attempted to enter the apartment building and used force when he refused to grant access.
According to a resident of Meridian Pointe Apartments, the situation began when federal agents attempted to enter the building and were refused entry. The resident reported that agents pushed them to the ground after they challenged their presence, stating the ICE agents told them they were interfering with a federal investigation “to keep criminals out of the country.” The resident said that they told the agents they were acting like kidnappers and that they were on private property without permission. The resident alleged that agents warned them that they could arrest them and also forced their dog’s head to the ground during the encounter.
The resident said they sustained injuries during the encounter with ICE agents, and said they were planning to seek hospital evaluation the following day. The resident also stated that once they threatened to call the police, agents released them and left the area. The resident said they didn’t see anyone detained or arrested at the complex during the incident.
While the City of Burnsville confirmed that an officer at the complex took a report, the specific allegations regarding the incident that caused injury have not yet been independently verified. ICE has not released information about its particular activities in Burnsville.
City: Police Responded Only After Federal Activity Concluded
As previously mentioned, the City of Burnsville confirmed that officers were dispatched to the apartment complex after a resident called to report federal law enforcement activity that had already ended. Officers took a report at the scene but were not involved in the federal operation.
This was one of two calls for service connected to suspected ICE activity over the weekend. The second call involved traffic-control assistance in the 900 block of McAndrews Road, where several residents reported law enforcement presence and unusual activity. Police responded solely to keep the roadway safe and passable.
City Officials Stress Local Police Do Not Enforce Immigration Law
Burnsville officials emphasized that the city does not participate in federal immigration enforcement, nor does its police department check immigration status or assist federal agents in such operations.
“Burnsville Police do not engage in federal immigration enforcement and are typically not notified of federal operations,” the city said. “Our officers enforce only state and local laws. Our role is to keep everyone in our community safe.”
Officials also stated that if protests, gatherings, or community responses occur, police may be present only to ensure safety, not to support federal enforcement.
City Continues Outreach to Impacted Community Members
City staff have been in contact with community leaders and local groups affected by the operations, offering support, answering questions, and providing accurate information. That outreach, the city says, will continue in the days ahead.
Residents, regardless of immigration status, are urged to call 911 if they witness or are victims of a crime.
ICE Has Not Released Details
Burnsville officials advise that anyone seeking specifics about the enforcement actions should contact the local Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) office in the Twin Cities.
