Woman Killed After Vehicle Struck by Train in Coon Rapids

COON RAPIDS MN : A 43-year-old woman was killed Thursday afternoon after her vehicle was struck by a freight train in Coon Rapids, according to authorities.

The crash was reported at approximately 3:44 p.m. on January 1 near the railroad tracks by 119th Avenue Northwest. Coon Rapids police and fire crews, Allina EMS, and BNSF Railway officials responded to the scene.

Investigators say a motor vehicle driven by Sara Beth Barber of Coon Rapids had stopped on the railroad tracks and was struck by an oncoming freight train. Barber was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The incident remains under investigation by the Coon Rapids Police Department, the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office, BNSF Railway Police Department, and the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office.

No additional information is being released at this time.
