One Dead Following Three-Vehicle Crash Involving MVTA Van at Lone Oak and Pilot Knob in Eagan

EAGAN, MINNESOTA - One person is dead following a serious three-vehicle crash Friday evening at the intersection of Lone Oak Road and Pilot Knob Road in Eagan.

Eagan Police Department and Eagan Fire Department were dispatched to the scene at approximately 5:20 p.m. on Friday, January 2, 2026, after reports of a multi-vehicle crash at the intersection. The crash appeared to be on the southeast corner of the intersection.

The crash closed the intersection of Lone Oak Road and Pilot Knob Road for several hours. The road remained closed as of 8:30 p.m. Friday while investigators documented the scene and crews worked to clear damaged vehicles and debris.

Crash Details

Officials confirmed at the scene that the crash involved:

  • An MVTA transit van

  • A black passenger vehicle

  • A black or dark-colored small SUV

Police confirmed that one person died at the scene of the crash. No identifying information has been released, pending notification of next of kin. All other injuries reported in the incident were believed to be minor, according to authorities, but all were transported via ambulance to local hospitals for further evaluation.

Investigation Underway

Due to the severity of the crash, the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office was called to the scene for the deceased, and the Minnesota State Patrol also responded to assist Eagan Police with crash reconstruction. The cause of the crash is not known at this time.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Additional details will be released once the investigation into the crash is finished, and the identity of the deceased will be released once the coroner’s office finishes its investigation into the cause of death.
