DAKOTA COUNTY: The Dakota County Sheriff's Office is honoring the life and legacy of Deputy Luther Klug on the 30th anniversary of his death.
According to the Sheriff's Office, Deputy Klug was tragically struck and killed by a drunk driver while driving home after completing his shift 30 years ago today.
In a memorial message shared Wednesday, the agency reflected on the lasting impact of his loss, describing Deputy Klug as more than a fellow deputy.
"That day, we lost not only a colleague, but a husband. A father. A son. A friend... A hero," the Sheriff's Office said.
The agency noted that while three decades have passed, the memory of Deputy Klug and his service continues to resonate throughout the department and the community he served.
"Thirty years may have passed, but time has done little to lessen the impact of his life or the weight of his loss," the Sheriff's Office wrote.
The Dakota County Sheriff's Office concluded its tribute by honoring Deputy Klug's courage, dedication and commitment to public service.
"Rest in peace, Deputy Klug. Your legacy lives on in this Office and in the many lives you touched."
