Eden Prairie Police Increase Patrols, Regional Coordination Following Two Shootings

Published: October 6th 2026.

EDEN PRAIRIE MN - Eden Prairie police are increasing patrols and working with regional law enforcement partners following two recent shootings in the city, including one outside Eden Prairie High School during Friday night’s homecoming football game.

Police Chief Matt Sackett addressed the incidents in a message to the community, saying investigators are working to determine what happened, identify those responsible and pursue available leads.

“I understand the concern and frustration many in our community are feeling following the shootings outside Eden Prairie High School Friday evening and at the Speedway gas station Monday evening,” Sackett said.

The shooting outside Eden Prairie High School occurred Friday evening during the school’s homecoming football game. Two people were injured and transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police previously said neither victim was a student at Eden Prairie or Minnetonka schools and that the shooting was believed to have been targeted.

Sackett said another shooting occurred Monday evening at a Speedway gas station in Eden Prairie.

In response to recent violence, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is bringing together regional public safety leaders later this week to discuss gang-related violence and coordination among law enforcement agencies, according to Sackett.

Several Eden Prairie Police Department investigators are actively working the cases and sharing information with investigators from other agencies, Sackett said.

Police have also increased patrols in areas where violence or other concerning activity has occurred. According to Sackett, officers have for several months maintained a proactive presence in parks and other locations where large groups tend to gather, including during late-night hours.

Eden Prairie police also participate with neighboring agencies on county and federal task forces, which Sackett said provides access to shared intelligence and additional resources for investigations and violence-prevention efforts.

Police officials are also meeting with Eden Prairie Schools leadership this week to discuss additional safety measures at schools, activities and events, as well as efforts aimed at preventing violence.

Sackett noted that some investigative information and law enforcement strategies cannot be publicly disclosed because releasing them could compromise ongoing investigations or operations.

Police are asking anyone with information about either shooting, even information that may not appear significant, to contact the Eden Prairie Police Department at Police@edenprairiemn.gov. Anonymous tips can be submitted by calling 952-949-8477.

“I understand people want answers, accountability and reassurance,” Sackett said. “We will continue working closely with our law enforcement partners to hold those responsible accountable, disrupt activity contributing to this violence and prevent further incidents.”

The investigations remain ongoing.
