Squad Car Crash in Farmington Sends Two to Hospital, Including Officer Responding to Domestic Call

FARMINGTON, MINNESOTA - A serious crash involving a Farmington Police Department squad car responding to an emergency call left two people injured Monday evening, March 2, 2026.

According to authorities, the crash occurred at 5:34 p.m. at the intersection of southbound Highway 3 (Chippendale) and Elm Street in Farmington, Dakota County.

Squad Car Responding to Emergency Call

Officials say a 2022 Ford Explorer squad car, driven by a 22-year-old Farmington police officer, was traveling southbound on Highway 3 with emergency lights and sirens activated while responding to a domestic dispute-in-progress call.

At the same time, a 2016 Toyota Corolla driven by 72-year-old Aristea Peter Kontiniakis of Farmington was traveling eastbound on Elm Street and entered the intersection.

The two vehicles then collided at the intersection, according to a crash report from the Minnesota State Patrol.

Injuries Reported

Both drivers were transported to the hospital following the crash.

  • The 72-year-old driver reportedly suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to Regions Hospital.

  • The 22-year-old Farmington Police Officer suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was also taken to Regions Hospital for treatment.

Authorities say both drivers were wearing seatbelts, and airbags deployed in both vehicles during the crash. Investigators also reported no alcohol is suspected as a factor in the incident.

Multiple Agencies Respond

Several agencies responded to the crash scene, including:

  • Farmington Police Department

  • Farmington Fire Department

  • Allina EMS

  • Dakota County Sheriff’s Office

  • Minnesota State Patrol

Investigation Ongoing

Because the crash involved an officer responding to an emergency call, the incident is expected to undergo standard crash investigation procedures to determine exactly what occurred and whether any additional factors contributed to the collision. Authorities have not yet released further details about the domestic dispute call the officer was responding to at the time of the crash.
