INVER GROVE HEIGHTS MN: The Inver Grove Heights City Council voted 3-2 Friday to approve the third and final reading of a one-year interim ordinance establishing a moratorium on new data center development within the city. The ordinance also applies to the pending data center proposal at the former Travel Tags property on Carmen Avenue.

City officials said the temporary moratorium is intended to allow Inver Grove Heights time to study the potential impacts of data centers, including zoning, infrastructure, and land-use considerations before moving forward with future projects.

Friday's vote came after Monday's City Council meeting ended abruptly without action on the proposal after council members cited new information they needed to review. The delay drew significant public criticism from residents who had packed the meeting.

The proposed data center has generated months of debate among residents, with supporters citing economic development and opponents raising concerns about potential environmental and infrastructure impacts. The developer has also threatened legal action over the city's handling of the project.
