Inver Grove Heights Woman Charged Following Alleged Armed Disturbance and Shooting at Keller Regional Park

MAPLEWOOD: An Inver Grove Heights woman is facing felony charges in Ramsey County after authorities say she was involved in an armed confrontation that escalated into gunfire during a gathering at Keller Regional Park in Maplewood.
According to a criminal complaint, 31-year-old Angelica Rose Jelinek has been charged with one count of Threats of Violence and one count of Second-Degree Riot While Armed With a Dangerous Weapon in connection with the June 2 incident.
Police were dispatched to Keller Regional Park shortly before 8 p.m. on reports of a shooting. Witnesses reported that the suspects fled the area in a white Dodge Durango.
Police recovered spent shell casings from two different calibers in the park, including .40-caliber and 9mm casings. Officers also located a cellphone near some of the shell casings. A police canine assisted in the search.
Authorities later stopped a Dodge Durango matching the description provided by witnesses. Jelinek was among four occupants inside the vehicle, according to the complaint.
Court documents state the gathering was being held as a celebration of life for a deceased family member. Witnesses told investigators that tensions began earlier at a funeral home and continued at the park.
One witness alleged Jelinek had displayed a firearm during an argument at the funeral home before attendees relocated to Keller Regional Park. At the park, witnesses reported a verbal dispute escalated into a physical confrontation involving several individuals.
According to the complaint, one witness told police that Jelinek said, "Don't make me pull it out" during an argument. Another witness reported seeing a handgun displayed earlier in the day.
Investigators obtained differing accounts regarding who fired the shots. Some witnesses identified Carlos James Jelinek as the shooter, while others alleged Angelica Jelinek was involved in possessing or firing a handgun during the incident.
Police recovered a Springfield Hellcat 9mm handgun from the vehicle's center console and a Smith & Wesson .40-caliber handgun from beneath a rear seat. Authorities also allege Angelica Jelinek acknowledged ownership of the Smith & Wesson firearm during an interview with investigators.
Jelinek denied firing a weapon and denied hearing gunshots at the park, according to the complaint.
No injuries from gunfire were reported.
The charges filed against Jelinek carry maximum penalties of five years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine on each count.
