Police Investigating Online Threats Against Both Lakeville North and South High Schools; No Weapons Found

LAKEVILLE, MN: Law enforcement officials are working with state and federal partners to determine who was responsible for separate online threats targeting Lakeville South High School and Lakeville North High School on Tuesday, prompting major police responses, evacuations, and lockdowns at the two schools.
In a joint statement Tuesday evening, Lakeville Police Chief Brad Paulson and Lakeville Area Schools Superintendent Michael Baumann provided additional details about the threats and the response at both schools. According to the statement, the first threats were reported shortly after 9 a.m. on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, and were directed at Lakeville South High School.
The threats were submitted through Lakeville Area Schools' anonymous reporting system and indicated the possible presence of firearms and explosives inside the school. Police said the threats' "immediacy and specificity" prompted a large law enforcement response and the evacuation of students and staff from the building.
First responders, including K9 teams, searched and cleared the school. Authorities said no weapons or evidence of violence were discovered.

Second Threat Targets Lakeville North
Several hours later, authorities received another threat involving a second Lakeville high school. Shortly after 12:15 p.m., additional online threats were received targeting Lakeville North High School, according to the joint statement. Those threats were submitted through the same anonymous reporting system used to report the threats against Lakeville South and referenced the presence of weapons.
First responders subsequently searched and cleared Lakeville North High School and the surrounding area. Again, authorities reported finding no weapons or evidence of violence.
The incidents resulted in significant law enforcement activity at both schools throughout the day as authorities worked to determine whether the threats were credible and ensure students and staff were safe.
Investigation Remains Active
Despite the searches finding no weapons or evidence of violence at either school, police said the investigation into the threats remains active.
The Lakeville Police Department is working with state and federal partners to determine who made the threats. Authorities did not identify the agencies assisting with the investigation or say whether investigators believe the threats against the two schools came from the same person or group.
No arrests or suspects were announced in Tuesday's joint statement.
Lakeville Police and Lakeville Area Schools said they will continue working together as the investigation progresses.
"We continue to collaborate with the Lakeville Area Schools to ensure the safety of all students and staff," the joint statement said.
District Praises Students, Staff and Families
District officials also highlighted the response from students and staff during the incidents. Lakeville Area Schools uses the Standard Response Protocol, which provides schools with standardized procedures for emergencies and other safety situations.
"We are proud of our students and staff for following these processes," officials said. "We also appreciate the cooperation and support of families as we worked to ensure student safety."
Officials also thanked the local, state, federal, and community partners who assisted during the responses at Lakeville South and Lakeville North. Tuesday's incidents began shortly after 9 a.m. at Lakeville South and expanded to Lakeville North shortly after noon, prompting separate emergency responses at the district's two high schools over several hours.
The Lakeville Police Department said the investigation remains ongoing. The department has not yet released additional information about who made the threats or how they were submitted.
