Man Charged After Allegedly Fleeing State Trooper at Speeds Reaching 141 MPH, Complaint Says

SAINT PAUL: A 18-year-old is facing felony charges in Ramsey County after prosecutors allege he fled from a Minnesota State Patrol trooper on a motorcycle that was initially clocked traveling 141 mph in a 60 mph zone before later admitting he had been driving recklessly.
According to the criminal complaint, at approximately 10:37 p.m. on July 28, a Minnesota State Patrol trooper observed two motorcycles traveling at a high rate of speed. Radar allegedly recorded the motorcycles traveling 141 mph on Highway 494 before they continued northbound onto Interstate 35E.
The complaint states that two troopers coordinated efforts to stop the motorcycles. One trooper positioned his squad near the Highway 13 ramp to northbound I-35E and observed one of the motorcycles pass by before it allegedly accelerated away.
Authorities allege the trooper activated the squad's emergency lights and siren, but the motorcycle continued fleeing, reportedly lane-splitting and reaching speeds of approximately 100 mph as it entered St. Paul. The pursuit continued onto Interstate 35E before the motorcycle exited at Grand Avenue. The trooper eventually discontinued the pursuit after losing sight of the motorcycle near the Grand Avenue exit.
According to the complaint, a Ramsey County Sheriff's Office Community Service Officer later spotted the motorcycle and followed it to the rear of a dormitory at St. Catherine University. Campus security provided surveillance video that allegedly showed the motorcycle arriving at the dorm about one minute after it exited the freeway. Prosecutors say the rider was let into the building by a female resident a short time later.
Troopers then contacted the resident, who acknowledged that a male friend was inside her room. The complaint identifies the rider as Sawyer Brooks Beinner Moudry, 18.
According to prosecutors, Moudry told the trooper he had been with friends in Richfield. When asked whether he had been riding at approximately 140 mph on Highway 494 and Highway 35E, the complaint states he hesitated before responding but did not deny the conduct. Prosecutors allege Moudry admitted he had been driving fast and recklessly but denied seeing the pursuing state trooper.
The resident reportedly told investigators she had known Moudry for about three months and was aware that he liked to ride fast. She told authorities they had not planned to meet that evening, but he called her at approximately 10:44 p.m. and arrived at the dorm just minutes after the pursuit ended, according to the complaint.
Moudry has been charged in Ramsey County District Court. The allegations contained in the criminal complaint are accusations, and he is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
