MINNEAPOLIS MN: A 19-year-old man was killed and a teenage boy injured in a late-night shooting inside a south Minneapolis apartment, according to police.

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said officers from the Third Precinct were dispatched around 10:15 p.m. on March 21, 2026, to the 2500 block of 17th Avenue South on reports of gunfire. When officers arrived, they found a 19-year-old man suffering from a fatal gunshot wound and a 16-year-old boy with what were described as non-life-threatening injuries.

The injured teen was transported by ambulance to Hennepin Healthcare for treatment.

Preliminary information indicates the shooting stemmed from an altercation involving a group of people inside the apartment that escalated into gunfire. The suspects fled the scene before officers arrived.

Police secured the scene and canvassed the area for witnesses. Minneapolis forensic scientists processed the apartment for evidence, and investigators are continuing to piece together the sequence of events that led to the shooting.

As of now, no arrests have been made. The case remains under active investigation under case number 26-070892.
