Minnesota State Patrol Urges Drivers to ‘Move Over’ After Nine Squad Cars Struck in Just Over a Week

ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Minnesota State Patrol is reminding drivers that moving over for emergency and stalled vehicles is not optional — it’s the law — after nine squad cars were struck in a little more than a week while troopers were responding to crashes and other incidents.
In several of the incidents, troopers were outside their vehicles when they were hit. While most of the crashes did not result in serious injuries, one trooper was hurt. Officials say every incident places lives at risk.
State Patrol officials emphasized that emergency lights are a clear warning that someone is working just feet from moving traffic.
“When you see flashing lights, slow down and move over when it’s safe to do so,” the agency said in a statement. “It’s the law.”
The State Patrol is urging motorists to stay alert, reduce speed, and do their part to help keep troopers and other roadside workers safe.
