Mother Charged With Child Neglect, Endangerment After Drugs Allegedly Found in Vehicle With 5-Year-Old

MINNEAPOLIS: — A Minneapolis mother has been charged with two gross misdemeanors after police responding to a report of two adults apparently unconscious in a vehicle allegedly found suspected drugs and drug paraphernalia inside while her 5-year-old daughter was present, according to a Hennepin County criminal complaint.
Taylor Marie Lambert is charged with neglect of a child likely to substantially harm the child's physical, emotional or mental health and child endangerment by permitting a child to be present where controlled substances were being possessed.
Both charges carry a maximum sentence of 364 days in jail and/or a $3,000 fine.
According to the complaint, Minneapolis police responded to the intersection of East Lyndale and Glenwood avenues on the afternoon of Sept. 12 after receiving a report that two adults appeared to be unconscious inside a parked vehicle with a young child.
When officers arrived, they found Lambert and an adult man inside the vehicle, the complaint alleges. Lambert appeared conscious, while the man woke after an officer knocked on the window, according to prosecutors.
Lambert's 5-year-old daughter was also at the scene and was reportedly getting in and out of the vehicle.
Police allegedly observed uncapped needles and apparent drug residue in plain view inside the vehicle. During a subsequent search, officers reported finding multiple clear plastic bags containing suspected narcotics, including a bag containing smaller bags that prosecutors allege were packaged for sale.
Officers also allegedly recovered a scale with white residue from the glove box, a brown glass vial containing 15 white pills and a glass pipe containing white powder residue.
According to the complaint, the child was released to a grandparent at the scene.
Lambert and the man were arrested and transported to jail. Prosecutors allege additional suspected narcotics and more than $1,400 in cash were found in the man's backpack.
The complaint further alleges Lambert had additional suspected narcotics on her person and inside her wallet.
Both adults allegedly told officers they had used drugs before police arrived, according to the complaint.
Lambert remained in custody at the time stated in the complaint.
The charges are allegations. Lambert is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
