Man Charged After Allegedly Firing at Vehicle in Rosemount Road Rage Incident
Published: April 19, 2026.
ROSEMOUNT, MINNESOTA - A Rosemount man has now been formally charged in connection with a shots-fired incident last week, after investigators say he fired a handgun at another driver during a confrontation at an intersection.
According to court documents, Anthony Lee Cruz, 47, of Rosemount, is charged with one count of felony 2nd-degree assault with a dangerous weapon stemming from the April 10, 2026, incident near 147th Street West and Akron Avenue.
The charge carries a potential sentence of 3–7 years in prison and fines of up to $14,000 if convicted.
Incident Began as Report of Shots Fired
As previously reported, officers with the Rosemount Police Department were dispatched around 6:43 p.m. on April 10 to reports of gunfire in the area.
Responding officers initially located a single 9mm shell casing in the roadway, but no victims or suspects were present at the time.
Newly filed court documents provide additional details, indicating the incident may have stemmed from a road rage confrontation between Cruz and the driver of a white SUV. According to the criminal complaint, a witness reported seeing a vehicle stopped unusually long at the intersection before the driver exited, retrieved a handgun from the trunk, and fired one to two shots at a passing white SUV. Another witness observed the two drivers appearing to exchange words prior to the shooting.
The alleged victim later told police Cruz had confronted him earlier, making threatening statements, including “I’ll beat your ass” and “I’ll kill you,” before the situation escalated. The victim said he later saw Cruz at the intersection, at which point Cruz allegedly fired at him, prompting the victim to duck and flee the area.

Surveillance, Evidence Lead to Arrest
Investigators used surveillance footage from a nearby apartment complex to identify Cruz as the suspect driver. Video reportedly showed Cruz confronting the victim earlier in the parking lot, following the victim’s vehicle, and stopping at the intersection and positioning himself before firing at the SUV.
During the investigation, officers executed search warrants at multiple locations tied to Cruz.
A 9mm handgun with an extended magazine was later recovered from a storage unit. Authorities say the firearm was loaded with ammunition matching the casing found at the scene, and a preliminary ballistic analysis indicated the gun fired the shell casing recovered by police.
Cruz was subsequently arrested with assistance from the Dakota County Drug Task Force and South Metro SWAT Team.
Bail Set at Up to $200,000
According to court records, Cruz’s bail was set at $200,000 bail without conditions, or $100,000 bail with conditions. He is no longer listed as in custody at the Dakota County Jail, suggesting he has posted bail. We are working to confirm that.
Court filings also noted that Cruz has extensive prior convictions on his record, including multiple prior felony convictions, primarily involving firearms offenses in Indiana, as well as a burglary conviction.
Prosecutors note that, if convicted, Cruz may qualify for enhanced sentencing as a “dangerous offender” under Minnesota law.
No Injuries Reported
Despite the gunfire, no injuries were reported in the incident.
Further updates will be provided as the case works through the court system. As with all criminal cases, the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
