Lightning Strikes Spark Two House Fires as Storms Move Through South Metro Wednesday

DAKOTA & SCOTT COUNTIES, MINNESOTA - Emergency crews in Dakota and Scott counties responded to at least two separate house fires Wednesday afternoon after homes were reportedly struck by lightning as thunderstorms moved through the south metro.
The incidents occurred just hours apart during a period of active weather that brought heavy rain, lightning, and strong storms across the region.
Savage Home Damaged After Reported Lightning Strike
The first fire was reported around 1:55 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17, in the 15000 block of Aquila Avenue in Savage.
According to emergency radio traffic, firefighters were dispatched after reports that a home had been struck by lightning and its roof was on fire.
Multiple agencies responded to the scene, including the Savage Fire Department, Prior Lake Fire Department, Shakopee Fire Department, Burnsville Fire Department, Allina Health EMS, and the Savage Police Department.
Fire crews remained on scene for an extended period, working to contain the fire and assess damage to the home.

Lightning Confirmed as Cause of Lakeville House Fire
Just over two hours later, at approximately 4:00 p.m., firefighters were called to another reported lightning-related fire in the 5500 block of 177th Street West in Lakeville. The response included both the Lakeville and Farmington Fire Departments after reports that a home had been struck by lightning.
Officials with the City of Lakeville confirmed to Limitless Media News that the fire was caused by a lightning strike. Fortunately, officials said the damage to the home was considered minor. No injuries were reported, and the residents were able to remain in the home following the incident.
