APPLE VALLEY, MINNESOTA - Emergency crews responded around 10:00 p.m. Monday night, October 13, 2025, to a serious two-vehicle crash on northbound Cedar Avenue (Highway 77) just south of I-35E. According to preliminary information from the Minnesota State Patrol, the collision involved a 2024 Ram 1500 pickup truck and a 2018 Transit Bus, both traveling northbound at the time of impact.
Crash Details
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, investigators say the Ram 1500 struck the Transit Bus before colliding with the highway’s cable barrier. The impact caused significant damage to the pickup, and the driver needed to be extricated. The Apple Valley Fire Department, Minnesota State Patrol, Allina Health, Apple Valley Police, and MnDOT all responded to the incident.
Due to the crash, traffic was limited to one lane/the right shoulder until crews eventually closed northbound Cedar Avenue at McAndrews. Both the northbound ramps for Cedar Avenue from McAndrews and Palomino Drive were closed for several hours while crews investigated the crash.
The driver of the Ram, identified as 44-year-old Ryan Matthew Ebert of Big Lake, Minnesota, sustained life-threatening injuries. He was transported by emergency personnel to Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC) in Minneapolis for treatment. The State Patrol’s preliminary report indicates alcohol was involved in the crash. Still, on October 30, 2025, the Minnesota State Patrol initially reported that alcohol was believed to be involved in this crash. On October 30, 2025, the report was updated to state that alcohol was no longer considered a factor. Instead, they reported that this crash involved an unbelted/unrestrained occupant.

The driver of the Transit Bus, a 65-year-old man from Apple Valley, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to M Health Fairview Ridges Hospital in Burnsville for medical evaluation.
