Registration is Now Open for the 2026 Teen Police Academy Hosted by Apple Valley and Rosemount Police

APPLE VALLEY & ROSEMOUNT, MINNESOTA - High school students interested in law enforcement and public safety have an opportunity to go behind the scenes this spring as registration has opened for the 2026 Teen Police Academy, a free program jointly hosted by the Apple Valley Police Department and the Rosemount Police Department.

The academy is designed to give students an inside look at police work, department operations, and the day-to-day responsibilities of officers serving their communities.

Program Details

The five-week academy will be held on Thursday evenings from 6 to 8:30 p.m., beginning March 5 and running through April 2, 2026.

Participants will learn directly from officers and staff about various aspects of policing, including patrol procedures, investigations, emergency response, equipment demonstrations, and specialized units within the departments. The program aims to provide transparency, education, and meaningful engagement between law enforcement and local youth.

There is no cost to participate in the academy.

Who Can Apply

Registration is open to high school–age students who:

  • Reside in Apple Valley or Rosemount

  • Attend high school in Apple Valley or Rosemount

  • Live in areas served by the Dakota County Sheriff's Department

The program is intended to help students better understand potential career paths in public safety while also building stronger relationships between officers and the communities they serve.

Students must register by February 26, 2026.
