The Buzz Coffee & Cafe Announces Plans to Close After Nearly 10 Years of Serving Community

BURNSVILLE: After nearly a decade in business, The Buzz Coffee & Cafe has announced it will close its doors later this year.
In a message shared with customers, owners Jasmine and Mike said they have made the difficult decision not to renew the cafe's lease. While a final closing date has not yet been announced, the business is expected to close by the end of the year, with additional updates to come.
The owners said the decision comes after "much thought," but emphasized that their announcement was focused on expressing gratitude to the community rather than discussing the reasons behind the closure.
Since opening on March 16, 2016, The Buzz Coffee & Cafe said it set out to become more than just a coffee shop by creating a place where people could gather, connect, and support one another.
Over the past 10 years, the cafe highlighted several community initiatives made possible through the support of its customers, including:
Raising nearly $10,000 to help neighbors impacted by the food desert that followed the murder of George Floyd.
Donating more than $10,000 to local schools, nonprofits, and charitable organizations.
Launching a pay-it-forward chain that continued for more than two weeks.
Packing and shipping essential supplies across the United States during the COVID-19 pandemic to people unable to leave their homes.
Hosting a community chili night that served more than 100 families.
Maintaining a community food shelf that assisted hundreds of people experiencing hardship.
Supporting dozens of families with food, essential items, and other assistance during Operation Metro Surge.
The owners also reflected on the thousands of days spent serving customers, noting that from opening day through their final day of operation, The Buzz will have spent more than 3,800 days serving coffee and fostering community.
In their message, the family said The Buzz has never belonged solely to them, but also to the customers, students, families, neighbors, friends, and employees who helped make the business what it became.
As the cafe enters its final months, the owners invited the community to stop in, share memories, enjoy a cup of coffee, and celebrate everything that has been built together over the past decade.
"We hope you'll stop by, share a memory, enjoy a cup of coffee, and help us celebrate everything we've built together," the owners said, adding that serving the community has been "one of the greatest honors" of their lives.
