Three Injured After Two Men Exchange Gunfire in Columbia Heights Parking Lot

COLUMBIA HEIGHTS MN: — Three men were injured after authorities say two people exchanged gunfire in a Columbia Heights parking lot early Saturday morning.

According to the Columbia Heights Police Department, officers were called to the 3800 block of Central Avenue NE at approximately 12:52 a.m. on September 5 following reports of a person firing a gun in a parking lot.

Police say initial information indicates two men exchanged gunfire outside a building. Three adult men who were in the parking lot were struck in the crossfire.

The three injured men were taken to local hospitals in private vehicles. Their injuries are not considered life-threatening, according to police.

One adult man has been taken into custody in connection with the incident, but formal charges have not been filed. Authorities are continuing to work to identify the second alleged shooter.

Police said the shooting does not appear to have been a random incident.

Multiple agencies responded to the scene, including police departments from Columbia Heights, Fridley, Blaine, Spring Lake Park, Coon Rapids, St. Anthony and Minneapolis, along with the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office and Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office.

The Columbia Heights Police Department and Anoka County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the shooting.
