Heat Advisory Issued for Twin Cities as Dangerous Heat Spreads Across Much of Minnesota Over the Next Few Days

Published: July 11th, 2026

TWIN CITIES: Residents across the Twin Cities metro and much of Minnesota should prepare for dangerous heat over the next few days, with the National Weather Service issuing a Heat Advisory for the metro beginning Sunday morning as a prolonged stretch of hot weather settles into the region.

The advisory is in effect from 10 a.m. Sunday through midnight Monday night and includes the entire Twin Cities metropolitan area, including Minneapolis, St. Paul, Bloomington, Eagan, Burnsville, Apple Valley, Lakeville, Woodbury, Maple Grove, Blaine, Shakopee, Chaska, Hastings, Stillwater, and surrounding communities.

Forecasters say heat index values could reach up to 100 degrees, creating dangerous conditions for anyone spending extended time outdoors. The National Weather Service expects the heat to continue for several days, with afternoon highs in the 90s and heat index values approaching or exceeding 100 degrees.

According to the National Weather Service, the prolonged heat increases the risk of heat-related illnesses, particularly for older adults, young children, people with chronic medical conditions, and those working or exercising outside.

Officials urge residents to:

  • Drink plenty of water throughout the day.

  • Spend time in air-conditioned buildings whenever possible.

  • Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.

  • Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing.

  • Schedule strenuous outdoor activities for the early morning or evening.

  • Check on elderly relatives, neighbors, and anyone without reliable access to air conditioning.

Anyone experiencing signs of heat exhaustion or heat stroke should seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms can include dizziness, heavy sweating, nausea, confusion, rapid pulse, or loss of consciousness.

The advisory covers dozens of counties across Minnesota and western Wisconsin, including Hennepin, Ramsey, Dakota, Anoka, Washington, Scott, Carver, Wright, Stearns, Sherburne, Benton, Chisago, Isanti, Kandiyohi, Meeker, McLeod, Renville, Sibley, Yellow Medicine, Swift, Chippewa, Lac qui Parle, Pope, Stevens, Douglas, Todd, Morrison, Mille Lacs, and Kanabec counties.

Residents are encouraged to monitor the latest forecast and take precautions as one of the hottest stretches of weather so far this summer impacts the Twin Cities and much of Minnesota over the next few days.
