HENNEPIN COUNTY: The Minnesota State Patrol is assisting the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office following an unlawful assembly outside the Whipple Building.
Authorities say individuals blocked roadways, restricted access to local businesses, and created hazardous conditions in the area. Deputies issued dispersal orders after declaring the gathering an unlawful assembly.
According to law enforcement, some individuals dumped glass into the street and threw rocks, ice chunks, and water bottles at officers. Officials described the actions as a serious public safety hazard.
“Everyone has the right to protest peacefully,” authorities said in a statement. “Blocking roads, creating dangerous conditions or throwing objects at others is not lawful and puts people at risk. This behavior will not be tolerated.”
Arrests are now being made in connection with the incident. Officials emphasized that while freedom of speech and peaceful assembly are protected rights, unlawful activity — including blocking public roadways, intentionally creating hazards, and assaultive behavior — will result in enforcement action.
