Winter Weather Advisory issued from 11 AM to 9 PM Sunday.

TWIN CITIES, MINNESOTA: A wintry mix of freezing rain, sleet, and snow is expected to affect parts of eastern Minnesota this afternoon, prompting the National Weather Service - Twin Cities (NWS Twin Cities) to issue a Winter Weather Advisory, with slippery road conditions expected during the late morning and afternoon hours.
Mixed precipitation will develop across much of eastern Minnesota by late morning and continue into the afternoon, extending into western Wisconsin. While overall ice and snow accumulations are expected to be light, even minor amounts can still cause hazardous travel.
Advisory Details
The Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. CST today for portions of central, east central, and southeast Minnesota, including the Twin Cities Metro.
Precipitation type: Freezing rain and sleet, with some snow possible farther east
Accumulations:
Sleet up to one-tenth of an inch
Ice accumulation around a light glaze
Primary impact: Slippery and icy road conditions, especially on untreated and elevated surfaces
The most significant travel impacts are expected along and east of the Mississippi River, where freezing rain and sleet are most likely. Further east in western Wisconsin, precipitation may transition to a mix or change to snow.
Travel Impacts
Even brief periods of freezing rain or sleet can create slick spots on roadways, bridges, and overpasses. Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra stopping distance, and remain alert for rapidly changing conditions.
Motorists can check current road conditions by calling 511 or visiting 511mn.org before traveling.
Looking Ahead
High temperatures later today are expected to reach the 30s across Minnesota, which may help gradually improve road conditions as precipitation ends. However, fog may develop tonight, reducing visibility into the evening and overnight hours.
Residents and travelers are encouraged to stay weather-aware and use caution through the afternoon as this wintry mix moves through the region.
