Allina Health Expands Orthopedic Services in Hastings, Adds Total Hip and Knee Replacements

Published: November 11, 2025.

HASTINGS, MINNESOTA Hastings-area residents now have access to advanced joint replacement surgeries close to home as Allina Health Orthopedics expands its services at United Hospital – Hastings Regina Campus, including total joint replacements for hips or knees. The addition of orthopedic surgeon Dr. Paul Lafferty marks the first time in several years that the Hastings community has had a dedicated physician specializing in total hip and knee replacements.

According to a press release from Allina Health, Dr. Lafferty’s arrival strengthens an already well-established orthopedic team in Hastings, offering care for a wide range of needs, including joint replacements, trauma, sports medicine, podiatry, and shoulder and elbow care. In addition to performing partial and total hip and knee replacements, he will also treat complex upper and lower extremity fractures. Allina Health says he is joining a robust Hastings orthopedic team and enhancing the team’s ability to continue delivering comprehensive and expert orthopedic care in other areas such as sports medicine, podiatry, and shoulder and elbow care.

“Allina Health is deeply committed to investing in the communities we serve,” said Jason Bainbridge, Operations Director for United Hospital – Hastings Regina Campus. “It’s been a few years since the Hastings community has had a physician dedicated to the specialty of hip and knee replacements. We’re very grateful to have Dr. Lafferty on staff locally, as that means we can now offer a full complement of orthopedic services to meet area patients’ needs.”

Across the United States, orthopedic procedures are increasingly common, with approximately 800,000 total knee replacements and 450,000 total hip replacements being performed each year, helping patients manage conditions such as advanced osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and other degenerative joint diseases. These surgeries have been shown to restore mobility and dramatically improve the quality of life for patients with chronic joint pain, according to a publication by Kopp-Mulberg FE and Naik H.

“With people living longer and desiring to be more active in their later years, I’m eager to help people in Hastings and surrounding communities improve their mobility, so they can get back to enjoying all the things they love to do,” said Dr. Lafferty. “The best part is they can now get full-service, expert care close to home, saving them save time and resources as they don’t have to travel to a metro hospital or specialty center for care.”

Dr. Lafferty will perform surgeries at the United Hospital – Hastings Regina Campus Surgical Center and see patients at the Hastings Nininger Road Clinic.
