Man Charged After Barricaded Assault Incident at Burnsville Apartments; Prior Warrant Also Served
Published: April 16, 2026
BURNSVILLE, MINNESOTA - In an update to our previous story, Barricaded Suspect at Stone Grove Apartment Taken Into Custody Following Assault and SWAT Incident, we have learned that a Faribault man is now facing felony charges following the barricaded suspect incident at a Burnsville apartment complex that prompted a multi-agency SWAT response Sunday evening.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Dakota County, Manuel Vicente Quito Brito, 33, has been charged with Felony Threats of Violence (Intent to Terrorize) in connection with the incident.
Incident Escalated Into Barricade
The situation began around 5:30 to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 12, 2026, at the Stone Grove Apartments in the 2500 block of Williams Drive in Burnsville. Police initially responded to a weapons-related call that was later determined to involve an assault. Authorities say the suspect barricaded himself inside a third-floor apartment, prompting a large law enforcement response. Residents reported evacuations of the third floor of the front building on the east side as officers worked to contain the situation.
Multiple agencies responded, including officers from Eagan, Lakeville, and Bloomington, along with SWAT personnel and an armored BearCat vehicle.
The standoff ended around 9:42 p.m., when Brito was taken into custody without incident.
According to court documents, the incident stemmed from an altercation between Brito and an adult male victim identified as a former roommate. Investigators say Brito came to the apartment and got into an argument with the victim. During the confrontation, Brito allegedly picked up a kitchen knife and attempted to stab the victim, missing and instead striking a wall. The victim was able to leave the apartment and call 911.
According to the complaint, when officers searched the unit, they located a knife matching the victim’s description, and stab marks on the wall and door were consistent with the reported assault.
Brito admitted to being involved in the argument and handling the knife, but claimed he was using it to cut limes for a drink.
Warrant Also Executed During Incident
Court records show Brito also had an active warrant out of Hennepin County tied to a pending domestic assault case.
During the barricaded incident, authorities obtained and executed that warrant in addition to the new charges filed in Dakota County.
Bail and Court Conditions
A judge has set Brito’s interim bail at:
$40,000 without conditions, or
$5,000 with conditions
Dakota County Jail records show that Brito has not posted bail and remains in custody as of the writing of this article.
No Reported Injuries
Authorities have not indicated that any injuries occurred during the incident. Fire and medical personnel were staged nearby as a precaution while law enforcement worked to safely resolve the situation.
Ongoing Case
As with all criminal cases, the charge against Brito is an accusation, and he is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
