DAKOTA & SCOTT COUNTIES, MINNESOTA - The Minnesota Valley Transit Authority will implement a wide-ranging series of summer service changes beginning June 1, including the suspension of several express routes, reduced Friday commuter service, and the addition of new replacement route patterns following months of public feedback.

The Summer 2026 Service Change plan includes the suspension of Routes 472, 484, and 489, with replacement service being provided through Routes 436, 470, 477, and 480. Additional route and stop changes will impact commuters throughout the south metro region. MVTA officials said public input significantly shaped the final service plan after the agency conducted outreach between March 4 and April 6 through surveys, webinars, rider outreach events, on-board conversations, and coordination with local governments.

One of the largest concerns raised during the feedback period involved the proposed suspension of Route 484 service between Rosemount and downtown St. Paul. According to MVTA, commuters, including some riders with disabilities, voiced concerns about needing to travel to Apple Valley Transit Station to access replacement service.

In response, MVTA modified its original proposal by creating a new Route 480R service pattern. The route will provide one daily trip in each direction between Rosemount Transit Station, Apple Valley Transit Station, and downtown St. Paul, Monday through Thursday. The agency also announced the addition of a new Route 477P pattern after receiving public feedback from riders in the Rosemount and Palomino Hills areas. The new route will provide three daily trips in each direction connecting Palomino Hills, 157th Street Station, and Apple Valley Transit Station to downtown Minneapolis.

MVTA further stated that rider feedback on Routes 470 and 472 highlighted the importance of maintaining certain trip times for commuters, resulting in some of the originally proposed cuts being retained in the final plan.

Suspended Routes and Replacement Service

Under the finalized summer schedule, Route 472 will be suspended. Riders who previously used Blackhawk Park & Ride and Rosemount Transit Station will instead have access to service through an extension of Route 470. Riders at Palomino Hills Park & Ride will transition to the new Route 477P service pattern.

Route 484 will also be suspended, with replacement service available through the new Route 480R pattern connecting Rosemount and Apple Valley to downtown St. Paul.

Meanwhile, Route 489 riders will be directed to use Metro Transit Routes 54 or 74 to connect with Route 436 at either 46th Street Station or MSP Terminal 1 Station.

Reduced Friday and Summer Service

MVTA announced that Routes 460, 465, 470, 475, 477, 480, 490, and 493 will operate on reduced Friday schedules due to lower commuter demand at the end of the workweek.

Additional summer reductions will impact University of Minnesota commuter routes 465 and 475, though MVTA said suspended trips are expected to return once the university school year resumes.

Select midday southbound trips on Routes 460 and 477 will also be suspended, with riders encouraged to instead use Routes 465 and 475 where available.

Downtown St. Paul Stop Changes

MVTA also announced several stop changes along Route 480 in downtown St. Paul to better align with existing Metro Transit stop locations. Multiple northbound and southbound stops along 5th and 6th Streets will be removed and replaced with new pickup and drop-off points.

Additional Route and Stop Changes

Additional changes taking effect June 1 include:

  • Route 420 is adding service to the 157th Street Station while removing the Texas Roadhouse stop.

  • Route 499 is eliminating eastbound service at a stop near Marschall Road in Shakopee.

  • Route 440 is removing two stops on Veterans Drive at the VA Medical Center.

  • Trip time adjustments on Orange LINK, Routes 436, 444, and 495 are intended to improve service consistency and operational reliability.

MVTA said updated schedules and additional information regarding the Summer 2026 Service Change are available through the agency’s routes page at MVTA. Riders with questions may also contact MVTA Customer Service at 952-882-7500.
