SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA - A Minneapolis man has been charged with Attempted First-Degree Premeditated Murder and Assault in the First Degree - Great Bodily Harm following a shooting in Shakopee that left a 40-year-old man critically wounded early Saturday morning. The charges come after an extensive, multi-agency search and pursuit that ended in Mendota Heights later the same night, according to a criminal complaint filed Monday by the Scott County Attorney’s Office.

Early-Morning 911 Call Leads Officers to Severely Injured Victim

According to the criminal complaint and a press release from the Shakopee Police, they were dispatched at 3:13 a.m. on November 15, 2025, to a residence on Grove Drive after a male called 911, reporting he had been shot and was “dying.” A second female caller confirmed the 40-year-old victim had been shot. Once responding officers got on scene, they found the victim upstairs with gunshot wounds to his abdomen, back, hand, leg, and buttocks. When officers got on scene, they found a man applying pressure to the victim’s abdomen. Officers observed shattered sliding-glass door shades with multiple bullet holes and located six spent shell casings on the floor, according to the criminal complaint.

The victim was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he was initially nonresponsive. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension was called in to assist with the crime scene investigation.

Witness Identifies Shooter as “Dae Dae”

The complaint goes on to state that in interviews with police, a witness initially said they did not see the shooter. Later, during a formal interview, they told investigators they did see the attack and identified the shooter as “Dae Dae,” a nickname police confirmed belongs to 30-year-old Dejon Paul Brown of Minneapolis.

According to the complaint, a witness stated that Brown came upstairs from the lower level and approached the victim “like he was mad at him.” The victim stood up and walked toward Brown, who then pulled a gun and immediately began firing. The witness described no verbal confrontation before the gunfire and said they feared for their own safety, hiding behind a table during the shooting.

The witness also alleged that a former roommate of the victim was also present shortly before the shooting and that tensions between the former roommate, Brown, and the victim may have been a factor in this incident.

Investigation Leads Police to Minneapolis Residence

Officers attempted to locate the former roommate at the former roommate's Minneapolis residence but were unsuccessful. Investigators later learned that the former roommate and Brown fled the scene in the former roommate’s 2024 Honda CR-V.

Around 7:00 p.m. on November 15th, officers found the Honda parked behind the former roommates’ home. Later that evening, detectives saw Brown remove several bags from the vehicle before entering a silver Pontiac with another man. When law enforcement attempted to block the vehicle, the former roommates allegedly reversed, ramming a squad car, and fled, according to the complaint.

Court records state that a Shakopee license plate reader had previously captured the former roommates’ Honda traveling through the city earlier that morning.

Pursuit and Crash in Mendota Heights

At approximately 9:30 p.m., Richfield Police encountered the Pontiac and initiated a pursuit involving three individuals: Brown, the former roommate, and a third male.

Officers deployed stop sticks before the fleeing vehicle exited onto Highway 13 and crashed near Lilydale Road in Mendota Heights around 11 PM. All three occupants fled on foot but were quickly located after multiple agencies established a perimeter.

The complaint states that during a search of the area, officers recovered a Masterpiece Arms 9mm pistol near the Highway 35 exit ramp and found an additional firearm on the dashboard of the crashed vehicle. Inside the vehicle, investigators located the former roommates’ wallet, a stack of cash, suspected narcotics, multi-colored pills, and THC products.

Brown complained of difficulty breathing and was transported to Regions Hospital. After being discharged, he was booked into the Scott County Jail.

Brown Denies Shooting During Interview

According to the criminal complaint, on November 16th, investigators interviewed Brown at the jail. After being read his Miranda rights, he admitted being at the Shakopee residence and knowing the victim, but denied being the shooter, calling the accusations “all hearsay.” When asked about who he was with during the incident, Brown replied, “You have all the Ring cameras and everything… you tell me,” before requesting an attorney.

Victim Expected to Survive; Investigation Ongoing

Shakopee Police reported, and the Scott County Attorney’s Office has confirmed that the victim remains hospitalized but is expected to survive.

Brown is currently charged with:

  • Attempted First-Degree Premeditated Murder

  • First-Degree Assault – Great Bodily Harm

He remains in custody under a detention order, with his bail hearing held this morning, November 18, 2025, at 10:30 AM at the Law Enforcement Center in Scott County. The judge set his bail at $1 million with no conditions, $50,000 cash with conditions, or $500,000 non-cash with conditions. His next court hearing is set for November 21, 2025, at 8:30 AM.
