BLOOMINGTON, MINNESOTA—A dryer fire at a residential home in Bloomington, Tuesday night, July 1, 2025, resulted in a second-alarm structure fire with multiple neighboring fire agencies responding before being brought under control.
The initial call came in at approximately 9:14 p.m. for a dryer fire at a single-story home on the 11500 block of Palmer Road. Just five minutes later, at 9:19 p.m., the first-arriving units reported seeing light smoke coming from the back of the structure. Following a further investigation, it was confirmed there was a working fire in the house, and the incident was upgraded to a structure fire as flames spread beyond the appliance.
Crews from the Bloomington Fire Department were first on scene, quickly initiating firefighting operations. Richfield was started soon after for auto aid. Due to the intensity of the blaze and the potential for further spread, the incident was escalated again to a second-alarm fire around 9:33 p.m., prompting the deployment of additional resources.
In total, fire departments from Richfield, Eden Prairie, Edina, and Burnsville responded to assist, providing mutual aid to help contain the fire and protect nearby properties. Allina Health paramedics also staged on scene to provide medical assistance if necessary, though no injuries have been reported as of this update.
Fire crews were able to contain and extinguish the fire but remained on scene into the early morning hours on Wednesday. The extent of damage to the involved residence has not yet been publicly confirmed. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, although early indications suggest that the dryer was the source of ignition. Everyone was reported to have left the residence, although two kittens appear to be unaccounted for.
More information will be shared as the investigation progresses.
