MVTA Seeking Public Feedback on Proposed Shakopee Express Route Changes

Published: May 18, 2026.

DAKOTA & SCOTT COUNTIES, MINNESOTA - The Minnesota Valley Transit Authority (MVTA) is seeking public feedback on proposed changes to several express bus routes serving Shakopee, Prior Lake, and surrounding communities that could take effect later this summer.

According to MVTA, the proposed changes would combine Routes 490 and 493 into a revised Route 490 service beginning Aug. 10. The transit agency is collecting public comments and survey responses through June 18 as part of the required public outreach process.

This map shows the proposed changes to Routes 490 and 493 for Fall 2026. Public feedback will be accepted through June 18.

Currently, Route 493 provides three daily trips in each direction between the Marschall Road Transit Station in Shakopee and downtown Minneapolis. Route 490 currently offers six northbound trips and eight southbound trips connecting Prior Lake, Eagle Creek Park and Ride, and Southbridge Crossings Park and Ride to downtown Minneapolis and the University of Minnesota.

Under the proposal, Route 493 would be discontinued.

Instead, select Route 490 trips would be expanded to serve the Marschall Road Transit Station, providing service between Shakopee and downtown Minneapolis while also including an additional stop at Southbridge Crossings Park and Ride. MVTA says University of Minnesota riders would still be able to access Route 490 service from Marschall Road Transit Station.

If approved, the revised Route 490 would provide:

  • Nine northbound trips

  • Eleven southbound trips

  • Four northbound trips serving Marschall Road Transit Station

  • Five southbound trips serving Marschall Road Transit Station

MVTA officials also noted that trip-time adjustments would be part of the proposed service update.

The transit authority stated that the proposed changes meet MVTA’s criteria for a “major service change,” which requires a Title VI analysis and public outreach process before implementation.

Residents and transit riders are encouraged to review the proposal and provide feedback through an online survey available on MVTA’s website or linked here.

Public Briefings Scheduled

MVTA will also host several in-person public briefing meetings where community members can learn more about the proposed changes and provide feedback directly to transit staff.
