Eagan Juvenile Charged With Multiple Felony Threats of Violence Following Online School Threats

Published: December 18, 2025

DAKOTA, MINNESOTA - A 16-year-old male from Eagan has been charged with four felony counts of threats of violence (intent to terrorize) in connection with a series of online threats directed at multiple Dakota County high schools, according to the Dakota County Attorney’s Office.

Dakota County Attorney Kathy Keena announced the charges on Thursday afternoon, December 18, 2025, stating that the allegations stem from social media posts made on the evening of Monday, December 15, that referenced threats against four high schools located in Dakota County.

Investigation and Arrest

According to court documents, officers from the Apple Valley Police Department were first contacted after reports surfaced about concerning posts on several social media platforms. The posts were quickly identified as potential threats directed toward area schools.

Investigators immediately began working to identify the source of the posts. Through their investigation, officers determined that the posts originated from a residence in Eagan, Minnesota. Police also verified the phone number associated with the social media accounts used to issue the threats.

On Tuesday, December 16, Apple Valley police obtained a search warrant in connection with the investigation. Before executing the warrant, officers from the Eagan Police Department positioned themselves outside the residence. While officers were staged nearby, a vehicle left the home and was stopped by police. The driver and passenger were identified as the juvenile’s parents. During questioning, the juvenile’s mother confirmed that the phone number linked to the threatening posts belonged to her son.

Officers then executed the search warrant and questioned the juvenile at the residence. According to the petition, the teen confirmed that both the phone number and the social media accounts used to make the threats were his.

The juvenile was arrested and transported to the Dakota County Juvenile Services Center in Hastings, where he remains in custody.

Questions From Parents Regarding the Weapons Shown in the Threat

Over the past few days, a common question we received at Limitless Media from parents concerned the weapons shown in the threat and the multiple voices. We reached out to the Apple Valley Police Department, which confirmed that, in the audio/video portion of the threat, multiple voices were heard. One of the voices they reportedly heard was President Trump being interviewed. According to officials, while the video showed firearms, it is essential to note that anyone can share a video without being its original creator.

As previously noted, during a search of the residence, no firearms were located, and law enforcement continues to believe the suspect in this incident had no access to weapons.

Prosecutor Emphasizes Seriousness of Threats

In a statement from her office, County Attorney Kathy Keena emphasized the seriousness of threats targeting schools.

“Any threat of gun violence, especially when directed at schools, is taken very seriously by my office,” Keena said. “I want to thank the student who reported the threats to a school resource officer. Your actions played an important role in protecting the safety of other students and staff while the police investigated the threat.”

Keena also thanked the Apple Valley, Burnsville, and Eagan police departments for their coordinated and thorough investigation.

Joint Statement From Law Enforcement Leaders

Following the press release from the Dakota County Attorney’s Office on Thursday, December 18, the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office and police chiefs from communities across the county issued a joint statement addressing recent threats and the broader impact of such incidents on schools and communities.

In the statement, officials acknowledged the fear and uncertainty caused by the threats. They reiterated that any threat of violence involving schools is treated as a serious criminal matter and addressed with urgency.

Law enforcement leaders stressed that threats of violence, whether intended seriously or made as a joke, are not harmless. Officials noted that such threats create real fear, disrupt learning environments, and require significant law enforcement resources to investigate and assess potential risks.

The statement also highlighted the role of parents and guardians, encouraging them to monitor online activity and have direct conversations with their children about the seriousness and consequences of making threats. Officials said early intervention can help prevent harm and stop concerning behavior from escalating.

“School safety is a shared responsibility,” the statement said, emphasizing the need for cooperation among law enforcement, school staff, parents, students, and the broader community. Authorities urged anyone who sees or hears something concerning to report it immediately.

The statement was signed by Dakota County Sheriff Joe Leko and police chiefs from Apple Valley, Burnsville, Eagan, Farmington, Hastings, Inver Grove Heights, Lakeville, Mendota Heights, Rosemount, South St. Paul, and West St. Paul, underscoring a countywide commitment to school safety.

Court Proceedings

The juvenile faces four felony counts of threats of violence (intent to terrorize) under Minnesota law. His next court appearance is scheduled for December 23 at 1:30 p.m. in Hastings.

Because the case is being handled in juvenile court, the teen’s name is not being released. He remains in custody at the Juvenile Services Center as of this report.
