EAGAN, MINNESOTA - Eagan Police were involved in two separate high-speed pursuits Thursday afternoon, February 19, 2026, both resulting in arrests, and a large multi-agency search effort that stretched across city and county lines.
Both incidents remain under investigation, and the suspects await formal charges.
First Pursuit: Theft at Hy-Vee Leads to High-Speed Chase Into Apple Valley
Initial scanner traffic suggested the pursuit may have been connected to a vehicle theft. However, Eagan Police later clarified that the incident stemmed from a theft at the Hy-Vee in the 1500 block of Central Park Commons Drive in Eagan, where the suspect fled the scene in a vehicle.
Officers located the suspect vehicle and attempted a stop, which escalated into a pursuit reaching speeds of 90 to 100 miles per hour on southbound I-35E.
The fleeing vehicle exited at 140th Street (County Road 11) and ran a red light, reportedly almost causing a crash in the area. Officers were about to call off the pursuit when they were able to perform a PIT (Pursuit Intervention Technique) maneuver at the intersection of 140th Street and McAndrews Road in Apple Valley.
At some point during the PIT or in the attempt to flee again, the suspect vehicle clipped another vehicle and also struck an Eagan police squad. Despite the collision, officers were able to stop the vehicle. The suspect was taken into custody at gunpoint without further incident.
Authorities confirmed that one adult female was arrested in connection with the incident. At this time, there are no reported injuries. Police are continuing to investigate this incident and have not yet released the suspect’s identity or potential charges.
The crash and investigation resulted in the westbound 140th Street lane being temporarily closed. Apple Valley Police and Minnesota State Patrol assisted Eagan Police in this incident. We are working to confirm whether any other agencies were involved.
Second Pursuit: Stolen Jeep Crashes at Highway 13 & Lone Oak, Suspect Flees Into Marsh
Just under two hours later, around 2:16 p.m., Eagan Police were again in pursuit, this time of a black Jeep in the area of Duckwood Drive and Denmark Avenue. The vehicle was reportedly stolen, prompting officers to attempt a traffic stop. Instead, the driver fled, reaching speeds of approximately 70 miles per hour.
The pursuit eventually ended up on Lone Oak Road at Highway 13, where the driver lost control around 2:23 p.m. The vehicle left the roadway and crashed roughly 200 yards west of Highway 13. The driver then fled on foot into the river valley and marshland between Highway 13 and the Minnesota River.
The suspect was described as a Black male with dreadlocks, wearing a red shirt, red hat, and black pants.
Large Multi-Agency Perimeter and Search
Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to assist with establishing a perimeter and conducting a search, including:
Mendota Heights Police
Burnsville Police
Dakota County Sheriff’s Office
Minnesota State Patrol
Bloomington Police
MSP Airport Police
We are working to confirm the full list of assisting agencies.
The search area stretched from the crash site across the river valley to:
Nicollet Avenue/Casper Landing near the Highway 77/Cedar Avenue bridge
Along the northern shoreline of the Minnesota River (Bloomington/Hennepin County)
Between the I-494 Bridge and the Mendota Bridge (Highway 62), where the suspect was eventually taken into custody
After an extensive search operation lasting more than two hours, the suspect was taken into custody around 4:40 p.m. It is unknown whether the suspect sustained any injuries at this time following the crash.
